Obituary

Mary L. Brice Garrett, 71, of Huntington, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 12, 2008 at her home. Funeral Services will be held 1 pm Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Franklin Murphy, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Huntington. Mary was born February 25, 1937 in Rita, Logan County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Rev. Eddie Nelson Sr. and the late Clara Nelson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Michael Nelson. She retired from St. Mary’s Hospital after 33 years of faithful service. She was a member of the Elks Golden Star Temple #534 and Evergreen Chapter #43. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Garrett; five children, Autley (Vanessa) Brice, Jr. of Orlando, FL, Donald (Angela) Brice of Oxon Hill, MD, Angela (Derrick) Collins of Lanham, MD, Carrie Denise Lowery of Huntington, WV and Jeff (Diane) Cosby of Ashland, KY; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Quintheta, Nyasha, Tyler, Brittney, Anika, Imani, Tabitha and Nikki; one great grandchild, Drew; five brothers, Isaiah (Joann) Nelson, Eugene (Evelyn) Nelson, Eddie Nelson Jr., James (Shirley) Nelson and Curtis (Barbara) Nelson; two sisters Annette (Michael) Smith and Peggy Friday; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Dawson and Rulerce Dawson; one aunt, Wilma (Clarence) Simmons. A Host of nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive. Visitation will be 12 pm until time of service at the church. Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington is assisting the family.
