    Panagiota Popi Barouxis

    Panagiota 
    (Popi) N. 
    Barouxis, 82, formerly of Kollines, Greece and current 
    resident of Ashland, KY, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 surrounded by 
    her loving family. Popi was preceded in 
    death by her husband Nikolaos G. Barouxis, 
    her brother Christos S. Grivas, and her parents Spyridon and Konstantina 
    Grivas of Kollines, Greece. Popi immigrated 
    to Huntington, WV with her family in 1976, quickly embracing her new life in 
    the United States and making many friends; she lived there until 2011.
    Popi was a homemaker who liked to sew, 
    knit, and crochet, was a great cook and baked the most delicious pastries – 
    her love and kindness towards others was always reflected in the care 
    packages she gave. Gardening was one of Popi's favorite pastimes; she shared 
    her vegetables and flowers with her friends and neighbors. She was always 
    very proud of her Greek culture and traditions and, was heavily involved 
    with her church, St. George Greek Orthodox Church, a place she considered 
    her second home and where she was a member of the Philoptochos Society.
    Popi is survived by her daughter, Vasiliki 
    (Vicky) Barouxis of Ashland, KY; son and 
    daughter-in-law Spiro and Vimala Barouxis 
    of Austin, TX; daughter and son-in-law Dimitra and Marcus Ursic of Taylor 
    Mill, KY; sister Ismene Klides of Sydney, Australia; and five grandchildren: 
    Nicholas Steele of Ashland, KY; Alexandros, Niki and Katerina
    Barouxis of Austin TX; and Andreas Ursic of 
    Taylor Mill, KY. Visitation will be held at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary, 328 
    6th Ave., Huntington, WV on Sunday December 22 from 6 – 8pm with Trisagion 
    service at 7:30pm. Funeral service will be 10am., Monday, December 23 at St. 
    George Greek Orthodox Church, 701 11th Ave., Huntington, WV, followed by 
    burial next to her late husband at Ridglelawn Cemetery. The family would 
    like to thank the King's Daughters Medical Center ICU staff for their 
    kindness and care. The family also extends its appreciation to the Community 
    Hospice of Ashland, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made 
    to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 701 11th Ave., Huntington, WV or to the 
    Community Hospice of Ashland, KY.
