Obituary

Claris Leota Childers, 92, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Hospice House in Ashland, KY.  Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Doug Spurlock officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Childers; daughter, Mary Jane Conley.  She is survived by her daughters, Leota Carol Clarke and Diana Gayle Gay; a grandson, Lon Wesley Conley; granddaughter, Wendi Lee (Bryan) Ellis; great granddaughter, Jennifer Renae Ellis, who is now 15 years old.  Claris is also survived by her special friend and the light of her life, Bruce Billups, with whom she shared much love and laughter in her later years.  Claris loved gardening whether on the farm on Little Cabell Creek Road in West Virginia or selling vegetables at the Cannonsburg Greenhouse in Kentucky.  She also knew how to prepare wonderful meals from the farm’s fare including specialties such as fresh strawberry shortcake, crispy cornbread, and pumpkin pies.  No one ever left her table hungry.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY  41101.
