    Charles 
    "Gabby" A. Hughes

    Charles A. “Gabby” Hughes, 86, of 
    Ceredo, WV, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical 
    Center, Huntington.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 am Monday 
    at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Paul Cantrell.  Burial will follow in 
    Wheelersburg Memorial Burial Park, Wheelersburg, Ohio.  He was born October 
    12, 1932 in Ceredo, WV, a son of the late Jean Wilson Hughes.  Gabby was a 
    veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War.  He was retired 
    from the Wayne County School System and was a Ceredo Municipal Court Judge, 
    with the longest serving tenure of 32 years in the state of West Virginia.  
    He served the Lord for 44 years as a member of the Kenova Church of God.  In 
    addition to his mother he was also preceded in death by sisters Clara Hughes 
    Mays Litton and Jean Hughes Maynard; brothers George Hughes and Joseph 
    Hughes; sister in law Pauline Selby Moore James and nephews Phillip Mays, 
    Billy Mays, John Maynard, Sammy Hughes and Charles Moore.  Survivors include 
    his wife of 65 years Kathleen Selby Hughes; daughter Diana B. Byard (Randy); 
    granddaughters Jacqueline “Jayleen” Byard of San Francisco, CA., Miranda 
    “Mandi” Byard Heaberlin (Brian) of Barboursville, WV and Jennifer Byard 
    Larsen (Larry) of Mt. Sterling, KY; great grandchildren Audrey K. Heaberlin, 
    Jackson K. Heaberlin, Elaina L. Larsen and Ava K. Larsen; sister Betty 
    Hughes Dean of Jeffersonville, IN.;Nieces Sandra Moore Blevins of Hurricane, 
    WV, Colleen Moore Lester (Mike) of Pinch, WV, Marge Mays Phipps of Orlando, 
    FL., Shaunie Hughes Sullivan,of FL., and Becky Hughes of Florida; nephews 
    Richard Dean (Debbie) of Kenova, WV, Michael Dean of Jeffersonville, IN., 
    Michael Moore (Connie) of Vero Beach, FL., Joe Allen Mays (Anne) of Dayton, 
    Ohio and Bob Hughes of Florida. He loved golfing and fooball, especially 
    Ceredo-Kenova and Marshall. He enjoyed his days with the Ceredo City Hall 
    family and spending time with his special friends Jim West and the late 
    Howard Carver. Papaw Gabby gave and recieved much love from his 
    grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their 
    lives and accomplishments. Friends may call from 10:30 am until service time 
    on Monday at the Reger Funeral Home.
