Richard Elwood Smalley
(July 19, 1940 - December 19, 2018)

Richard Elwood Smalley of Odenton, Maryland, formerly Huntington WV passed away December 19, 2018 at Hospice of the Chesapeake Mandarin House; Harwood, Maryland. Richard was born July 19, 1940 at Louisa, Kentucky to the late Richard Wilbur Smalley and Sarah Dixon Smalley.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia J. Smalley.  He is survived by his son, Cary "Mitch" Smalley (Julie) and stepchildren Rodney Chatterton and Roberta Pannett; grandchildren Travess (Kaela) Smalley, Grayson Smalley & Caitlyn Smalley, step-grandchildren John Olivero, Katie Olivero, Tanner Chatterton, and Mariah Jobe.  Richard loved conversation, story-telling, and making friends.  He valued connection with family and friends.  He was especially fond of his youth spent at his grandparents Greenfield, Ohio farm with his Uncle Robert and many cousins.  Richard retired from Cabell County Public Schools.    In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Hospice of the Chesapeake or the Catholic Charities of Baltimore.    Graveside services will be at Spring Hill Cemetery on Saturday December 29th at 10:00 AM.  A short viewing will be held before the service beginning at 9:00 AM at Reger Funeral Home.  A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM for the cemetery.
