Darius Samson Jones
(March 1, 1922 - February 13, 2017)

Darius Samson Jones, 94, of Huntington, formerly of Charleston, went home to be with his lord Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House surrounded by family. He was born March 1, 1922 in Sissonville, W.Va. a son of the late George McDonald and Lora E. Hackney Jones. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mabel Mae Jones; a son Darius Lee Jones and a sister, Arbutus Tipton. He was a WW II Army Veteran serving in the 12th Armored Division and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired from Union Carbide Tech Center and attended WV State. Darius was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, a member of South Charleston Lodge 168 A.F. & A.M. 32nd Degree, VFW Post 3466 and a volunteer at the Huntington VA Medical Center. He is survived by his son, Rod (Jane) Jones of Huntington; two grandchildren, Carrie (Dan) Underwood of Huntington and Michael B. (Lauren) Jones of Pittsburgh, PA and two great grandchildren Emily and Megan Underwood. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 in the Last Supper Mausoleum at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, by the Rev. Jeffrey Kanode. Interment will follow. Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until service time in the Mausoleum. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is assisting the family.
