    Richard Erwin McCoy Jr. 
    (November 3, 1940 - February 20, 2015)
     
    
      
     
    On Friday, February 20, 
    2015, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and engineer, 
    Richard Erwin McCoy Jr. 
    of Huntington West Virginia passed away at the age of 74. He valiantly 
    battled thyroid cancer the last 6 months of his life. Richard was born in 
    Huntington, in 1940 to Katherine and Richard Erwin McCoy. He graduated from 
    Marshall University with a Bachelor of Engineering Science and a Master of 
    Science in Physics. In 1964 he married his high school sweetheart, and they 
    celebrated their 50th anniversary this past summer with family. Following 
    graduation, Richard worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a 
    Mechanical Engineer for 41 years. He then worked in the private sector after 
    leaving the Corps, retiring in 2012. He was a member of the American Society 
    of Mechanical Engineers serving as Secretary of the state chapter. Richard 
    was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he was involved 
    in United Methodist Men, the Sanctuary Choir, ushering and served on 
    numerous boards within the congregation and the district. He also 
    volunteered his time to his children’s schools, Boy Scouts, Barboursville 
    Little League baseball and softball. Richard is preceded in death by his 
    parents, Katherine and Richard McCoy of Huntington, and Brother in Law 
    Benjamin Gilbert of Huntington. He is survived by his wife Pamela, sister 
    Barbara Gilbert, two children Richard McCoy III and wife Laura, Karen Hagan 
    and husband Robert, and 4 grandchildren Emily Hagan, Alex Hagan, Rowan McCoy 
    and Graham McCoy, a brother-in-law, 2 sisters -in-law and 9 nieces and 
    nephews. He will also be missed by his church community, friends, neighbors 
    and colleagues. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist 
    Church, Huntington, Wednesday, 2:30 pm February 25 with the visitation from 
    12:30 until 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Campus 
    Christian Center, One John Marshall Way, Huntington, WV 25755 or the First 
    United Methodist Church Music Program, 1124 Fifth Avenue, Huntington, WV
