Catherine Elizabeth (Steinke) GREENWELL
(April 12, 1923 - October 12, 2014)

Catherine Elizabeth “Betty” Greenwell, 91, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Huntington. Betty was born in Iaeger, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Frank Dietrich Steinke and Lida Lee Counts Steinke. She was a graduate of Welch High School and completed studies in Medical Technology at WVU and Duke Universities. Betty married Huntington native, Owen Clay Greenwell, in 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1988. She has lived in Huntington at the Greenwell’s family home for 68 years. Mrs. Greenwell was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her Community work included the Pharmacist’s Auxiliary, the PTA, Catholic Daughters and Birthright. Survivors include Ret. LTC Frank Counts Steinke of Springfield, Virginia; her three children, Julia Lee Janssen (Paul) of Naperville, Ill., Owen Wall Greenwell of Huntington and Catherine Elizabeth “Betsy” Yanik (Joe) of Emporia, Kansas; five grandchildren, Raymond Clay Janssen (Stephanie) Jeffrey Elliott Janssen (Christine), Andrew Paul Janssen, Elizabeth Lee Yanik and Mary Catherine Yanik and seven great grandchildren, Ryan Kyle Janssen, Megan Paige Janssen, Scott Michael Janssen, Brooke Leah Janssen, Timothy Karl Janssen, Mark Jeffrey Janssen and Emily Grace Janssen. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00a.m.Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father Charles E. McGinnis. Interment will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park. Friends may call Wednesday 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary. Those who wish may donate expressions of sympathy to Birthright.
