    Mr. 
    Charles Harlan Thompson, 83, of
    
    Huntington,
    WV, arrived in heaven from his 
    residence surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, April 29, 2007. 
    A celebration of his life will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, May 4, 
    2007 at the Beard Mortuary with Rev. Keith Watters and Rev. Fred E. Kitchen 
    officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Kathleen at
    Forest
    Lawn
    Memorial Park,
    
    Huntington, following his 
    service.  Charles was born April 7, 1924 in
    Milton,
    WV the son of the late Robert Harlan and 
    Effie Renee (Douglas) Thompson. He was also 
    preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Kathleen (Meade) Thompson; 
    three sisters; and one daughter, Patricia Carol (Thompson) Porter. He is 
    survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Constance L. Cole of Huntington, 
    Wilma E. Black of Proctorville, OH, Marcia G., and (Rev. Fred E. Kitchen) 
    and Joyce Y. Thompson all of Huntington. 15 Grandchildren, and 17 
    great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rozella Hutchinson, JoAnne Westfall and 
    Patricia Yates, two very special friends, Irvin Hager and Bubby Black, and 
    many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.   He was a 
    retired Audio-Visual Technical Director with the Cabell County Board of 
    Education and a member of the
    
    Christ
    Temple
    Church. He was an 
    active member of the Guyandotte Historical and Improvement Association. He 
    served on the Board of Advisers, Food-For-Hunger Coordinator U.S.A. and 
    Radio Specialist for World Missionary Evangelism, Dallas, TX., WME is an 
    organization that he was very proud of and was founded by his late uncle, 
    Dr. John E. Douglas, Sr. Charles and his wife Kathleen operated a WME, Food 
    Pantry at their residence in the Guyandotte section of Huntington, 
    unselfishly serving thousands of families. Charles and Kathleen also 
    coordinated an annual Christmas food basket and children’s toy give-a-way 
    bringing hope and joy to thousands of families and children at Christmas. He 
    was both humbled and proud of his work and the ability to help others. He 
    enjoyed trains, music, computers, electronics, woodworking, collecting, 
    helping others, and most of all he enjoyed being in the company of his 
    family. The family would like to express a sincere thanks to CHH Home Health 
    and Hospice of Huntington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be 
    made to WME, Inc. 226 Marshall Street Huntington, WV 25702. Friends may 
    honor his life from 6 to 9 PM Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Beard Mortuary.
