NATHANIEL SCALES AT REST IN SPRING HILL
The mystery of Revolutionary War soldier
Nathaniel Scales' final resting place appears to be solved.
Sacles was originally buried at the Buffington Graveyard.  The graveyard
was on what is now Staunton
Road at the southeast corner of the Cedar Grove lot.  When the Cedar Grove
property was divided
into town lots, the bodies were disinterred and moved to Spring Hill Cemetery.
The markers from
the Buffington Graveyard were destroyed and not taken to Spring Hill.
Private Scales was born in 1758 and died in
1834.  He served as a private in North Carolina against the
Tories and the Chickasaw Indians.  Scales acted as one of the guards over
the prisoners taken by
General Daniel Morgan at the battle of Cowpens.
