Downing Fought With Bebedict Arnold

Samuel Downing, one of the last surivors of the American
Revolution, fought alongside George Washington and
Benedict Arnold.

He was one of the few Revolution War soldiers to be photographed.

Downing recalled seeing Washington  almost every day. He
said Washington never smiled and would hang traitors to
the first Tree.

His pension was eventually raised to $180 per year.
