Philadelphia was the capitol of the United States until
Washington, D.C. was established in December, 1800.

It housed both the Continental Congress and the Constitutional
Congress. Both the Declaration of Independence and the
Constitution were written there.

Philadelphia was the headquarters of the colonies during the
 American Revolution.
